Relaxing

relaxing

Its important to take some time for yourself. It can be difficult to find time for relaxing or to afford yoga classes or going to get a massage. One simple and easy way to relax is thinking about your breathing. Your breathing is always with you and something you can take time to focus on. The Ohio State’s Center for Integrative Health and Wellness offers free mp3s which are short and you can listen to at any time.

Try listening to Dr. Kemper’s explanation of being aware of your breathing (first link) and Dr. Thornton’s 10 minute exercise (second link).

Try it for yourself, talk to your youth about focusing on their breathing, download the mp3 or a relaxation app and remind each other to take time for relaxation.

Tell us how it worked for you!

Here is a smoothie for when you’re feeling distracted.  The complex carbs present in the oat will help your brain and the amino acid tyrosine present in the protein powder will make you mentally alert.  Something for those days when your to-do list is miles long!

Oatmeal Cookie Smoothie

Ingredients:

½ cup oats

1 scoop of vanilla protein powder

1 cup skim milk,

1 teaspoon of coconut oil

1 teaspoon of maple syrup

Handful of ice

Blend the first five ingredients until smooth and add the ice and then blend and serve.

Did you sip your way to a distraction-free day?  What are other mood-boosting healthy foods that you reach for?
