Love Letters

DoSomething.org is a social movement site that uses easy steps to help change the world. We recently came across the Love Letters campaign and wanted to share it with you! Love Letters is a campaign to make Valentine’s Day cards “to show an older adult you care.”

The Problem:

Getting older can be pretty lonely. In fact, as of 2012, 11.8 million American seniors live alone and face isolation due to location, disability, or language barriers.

We know that isolation isn’t just an adolescent thing – it can happen to anyone, so we wanted to encourage you to reach out this winter season to someone else who may be feeling what you feel.

It ends February 15th and it is very easy to sign up for the site and then submit your card!

Let us know if you decide to join in! Do you think that this is a good idea?

Pay attention to your mat only

“Breathe in.  Take a deep breath.   Hold it.  Exhale.”

The Yoga instructor encouraged us to merge mind, body, and spirit with each intake of air.  Gracefully she transitioned from one pose to another:  Downward Dog, Plank, Cobra, Mountain pose.  For the record, I wasn’t nearly as graceful.   We cycled through the salutations numerous times.

The Good News Network agrees. It is a website that only posts  and shares good news. The site founders feel that sometimes the media can be unbalanced because often, it portrays the bad side of life.  The site mentions the quote: “If news is not really news unless it is bad news, it may be difficult to claim we are an informed nation.” – Norman Cousins

Did you know that thinking about what you are grateful can be like a cup of coffee and motivate you to get you through the day? It can also make you feel closer to people you feel grateful for especially in romantic relationships.  This video from a spiritual leader, Brother David, can help you relax and think about the role gratitude plays in your life. If interested, check out his website: gratefulness.org which talks about gratefulness as a “a universal practice that fosters personal transformation, cross-cultural understanding, interfaith dialogue, intergenerational respect, nonviolent conflict resolution, and ecological sustainability.”

Try writing down in a journal what you feel grateful for! If there are things you feel grateful for about your child, share it with them – it will help to strengthen your relationship. How did you feel afterwards? Let us know in the comments!
